Kathmandu -The United States has demanded ownership of half of Ukraine’s mineral resources in exchange for the support it has provided in the fight against Russia.
On Wednesday, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besent, under the Trump administration, met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
During his visit, the first by a Trump administration official to Ukraine, Treasury Secretary Besent set the condition that Ukraine must grant 50% ownership of its mineral resources in return for continued U.S. assistance in the war against Russia.
According to The New York Times, citing Ukrainian officials, Zelenskyy rejected this condition.
The condition included granting 50% ownership of all of Ukraine’s mineral resources, including graphite, lithium, and uranium, as compensation for U.S. support.
According to an official, after reviewing the proposal, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would provide an alternative proposal, which was expected to be exchanged during his participation in the Munich Security Conference.
